Topo Nomad is a professional app that allows you to download high resolution USGS topographical maps for offline GPS use. It is perfect for road trips, camping, hiking, exploration, and geographical research. The app accurately aligns map images regardless of datum and integrates with Apple's map kit for easy referencing and intuitive touch navigation.

This software takes full advantage of the latest IOS capabilities, offering exceptional performance with fast start up, map rotation, rendering, and zoom. The level of detail and undistorted resolution provided by Topo Nomad is unmatched. Even while new maps are being downloaded in the background, you can continue using the app seamlessly.

Topo Nomad features an extensive index of over 250,000+ current and historical topographic maps from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), covering every region and island territory of the United States. You can explore historical versions dating back as far as 1884. The app allows you to install a map quadrant by pressing and holding a point on the reference map, revealing the available historical maps at that coordinate and the unique names assigned to each quad by the cartographers.

In addition to USGS maps, Topo Nomad supports the import of "Geospatial PDF" maps from the web, iTunes, and email. Many local and national park services offer PDF map downloads through their websites, which can be automatically installed into the app. If you reside outside the United States, you can also check with your government services for topographic and aeronautical sectional maps that include embedded geospatial metadata.

When you have downloaded a map but can't find it among your collection, simply zoom out on the reference map view. All the topo maps will become visible with a vivid violet color and partial transparency, allowing you to easily spot your desired map. Installed maps are managed in a convenient table format that can be sorted by name, distance, and scale. You can stack multiple versions of the same map and choose to make them visible or hidden using two finger swipes.

If you are planning a hike and want to know the distance, simply download the map and use the dual mode ruler feature. It allows you to measure the path distance accurately, answering the question of "how much farther?"

To enjoy unlimited map downloading, you can purchase a subscription. This removes ads and does not auto-renew. The app also offers a few complementary map downloads when you first start using it.

*Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The location feature may not function on iPods and Wi-Fi-only iPads without built-in GPS hardware.
